Postdocs in Multidimensional Spectroscopies of Quantum Materials

We are seeking outstanding candidates for an experimental postdoctoral position in the Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science Division at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). The successful candidate will focus on developing and performing ultrafast optical spectroscopies of quantum materials, primarily so-called ‘multidimensional spectroscopies’ from the terahertz to optical frequency ranges. Studies of interest include strongly correlated electron systems, topological materials, and low-dimensional nanostructures, both in equilibrium and in light-induced non-equilibrium states. Access to extensive user facilities at BNL will be available, including the adjacent Center for Functional Nanomaterials.

Starting date is flexible, and applications will be reviewed until positions are filled.

For more information please contact Albert Liu (aliu1@bnl.gov).

Postdoc in Ultrafast Quantum Optical Spectroscopies

The project will focus on developing and employing Ultrafast Quantum Optical Tomography, an innovative technique that combines pump-probe spectroscopy with quantum state reconstruction. This approach will enable the exploration of quantum statistics in light-matter interactions between quantum materials and few-photon, sub-picosecond pulses. The successful candidate will apply this method to study quantum fluctuations of matter and the generation of quantum light, in both equilibrium and light-driven systems.

The ideal start date is January 2026 (flexible) and applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.

Fellowships

We especially welcome graduate students and postdocs with fellowships, and would be happy to support you in applying both before and after joining our group.

We encourage eligible graduate students to join our group for internships through the Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program.

International applicants in particular can consider the following funding opportunities:

Outstanding candidates can also apply for the Goldhaber fellowship at BNL.
